Ash, Akshay receive Padma Shri

It was a proud day for ‘Bachchan Bahu’ Aishwarya and ‘Kinng’ Akshay Kumar as they received one of the highest civilian honours – Padma Shri from President Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Aishwarya is the youngest person to ever achieve this honour from the film fraternity.

Tall, lissome and clad in an embroidered sari, Aishwarya looked regal as she received the award. Akshay Kumar looked equally impressive and suave in his formals.

Besides Akshay and Ash, veteran actress and dancing queen of yesteryears Helen was also bestowed with the Padma Shri for her contribution to art and cinema.

From the field of music, playback singers Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan, Ghazal singer Penaaz Masani and music composer Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar also made it to the list of Padma Shri awardees this year.

Britney ask to close down her most popular fansite

Popstar Britney Spears’ father, Jamie, has ordered a leading fansite to close down the site by 3 p.m. or face an injunction.

Jordan Miller, the owner of Britney’s most popular website ‘BreatheHeavy.com’, is disappointed. Pop icon has herself asked for her fansite to be closed down which has been supporting the pop icon for more than 5 years, because she found some of its content is offensive.

Though Miller insisted that the only purpose of the site was “to support the icon of our generation, Britney Spears, and to continuously stick by her through the good and bad,” Jamie has taken legal action over some of the content.

“I have been battling the conservatorship Britney is currently placed under for months now,” Us Weekly quoted Jamie as stating on his website.

On the other hand, if the site remains online, Spears’ legal team says they will pursue damages and “injunctive relief in connection with the blatant violation of her rights of publicity and privacy.”

Shweta’s ethnic charm spreads the magic at LFW

Shweta Bharadwaj, the Mission Istanbul fame actress enthralled the audiences at the Lakme Fashion Week, Mumbai o the 27th of March,2009 by walking the ramp in a beautiful ethnic wear designed by Abdul Halder. Ashlee denies that her marriage is on the rocks

Ashlee Simpson has rebuffed claims that her marriage to rocker Pete Wentz is on the rocks, insisting that “everything is fine”.

She was responding to recent reports that suggested that Ashlee and Pete’s marriage had hit a rough patch, as the latter was busy partying while Ashlee was left home looking after their three-month-old son Bronx.

“Ashlee and Pete are on the rocks. He is going out all the time and she’s stuck at home. It’s just not working,” the Daily Express quoted a source as saying earlier.

However Ashlee’s representatives have denied the claims by saying that the couple are happily married, and that Pete will return to their L.A. home once he completes his band’s Australian tour.

“This is not true. Everything is fine in their world,” a representative for Ashlee told The New York Post.

Freida Pinto to play a role in Israeli film

After bagging a role in a Woody Allen film, the “Slumdog Millionaire” Freida Pinto has now joined the cast of Israeli filmmaker Julian Schnabel’s “Miral”.

The 24-year-old shot to international fame after the success of Danny Boyle’s multiple Oscar-winning drama.

Adapted from Rula Jebreal’s book about Hind Husseini, who founded an orphanage in Jerusalem in the wake of the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel, the screenplay for the film is written by Schnabel himself, reports Variety magazine.

The film is to be shot in Israel and the Palestinian territories with filming to begin April 19.

Earlier, Freida was selected for Allen’s untitled project opposite the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins and Josh Brolin.

“Skin is huge and there are so many great bronzers. Self tanners were a little funky ten years ago but the color is a lot better now. Thats the most important thing, if you have a little glow it really hides imperfections - bruises, spider veins, we all have little cellulite, I box a lot, I spin and I surf. I try to mix it up. I obviously have to be in shape 24 hours and the gym can be super monotonous, so I just get outside and try to make it fun so my body doesnt get bored,” Fox News quoted Miller, as saying.

Salma Hayek, Adam Sandler to play as hubby-wife in comedy film

Salma Hayek has been roped in to star as Adam Sandler’s wife in as-yet-untitled comedy film.

The film will also star Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Maya Rudolph and Colin Quinn, reports Variety magazine.

The story of the film revolves around five best friends from high school, who reunite 30 years later on a July 4 weekend.

Dennis Dugan is onboard to direct the picture, which is scheduled to begin filming in the summer.

Hayek will next be seen in Universal Pictures'' ‘Cirque du Freak’.

Priyanka Chopra will receive the 'Nielsen Box Office Award'

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra will receive the Nielsen Box Office Award for outstanding contribution to Asian cinema.

The award will be presented during the 3rd Annual Asian Film Awards March 23. The awards will be part of the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Priyanka, a former Miss World, will be the second recipient of the award. She joins Hong Kong film actor and producer Andy Lau, who received the inaugural award at the 2007 ceremony.

Shilpa rushes to meet Jade Goody

Setting aside all her work, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has left for London to meet her “Bigg Brother” housemate and cancer-stricken reality TV star Jade Goody.

Jade Goody is feared to be just hours away from her end as her condition has deteriorated rapidly. Doctors have given her only a few hours before the inevitable death.

Shilpa, who had a series of racially-charged run-ins with Jade during 2007’s “Celebrity Bigg Brother”, flew to London Sunday night as she doesn’t want to miss this last opportunity of meeting Jade.

“Whatever happened between Shilpa and Jade was in the past. Shilpa can’t believe how fast Jade’s life has been devastated. It has made her realise the futility of fights, rivalries and mundane bickering,” a friend of the Bollywood star said.

Rushing to finish off her last-minute chores before flying to London Shilpa said, “I really don’t want to say anything on this. It’s too personal.”

Cancer-stricken British reality television star Jade Goody is said to be close to her end as her condition has worsened dramatically.

Goody, 27, was said to be “on the edge of a precipice” Saturday night, as her condition deteriorated leading to fears she may not live more than a day, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Unable to speak and struggling for breath, the mother of two was drifting in and out of consciousness. Her family, including husband Jack Tweed, gathered at her bedside after a nurse urgently summoned them to the star’s Essex home here.

Added a source: “The family was told maybe Jade would make it to Tuesday, but after such a bad night that’s been revised to Monday, and maybe sooner.”
